So, how does Mt Greylock stack up against the climbs of the 2010 Tour de France? Pretty well, actually. Using the methodology described in a recent Podium Cafe post, Greylock's Difficulty Rating of 83.3 ranks it between Stage Nine's Col des Saisies and Stage 16's Col d'Aspin, both of which have Cat 1 rankings (see below). Greylock's statistics include an average grade of 5.3% over 16.1K, topping out at 1061 meters. That having been said, there's a 1K section that averages 11% and has a couple of ramps topping out at over 20%, ouch!
Climb Greylock with Ride Noho and you'll watch future Tours through a new prism with a first hand understanding of what it's like to climb a Cat 1. So why not join in July for our three-day Greylock Weekend? If you can't make all three days, feel free to come for just Saturday and Sunday. You'll never be the same! As a side note, we've calculated Mt. Washington's Difficulty Rating to be a leg-breaking 238. That's 35% greater than Mount Ventoux! Now when our Elaine Formica, who has done that race twice, says, "that's a hard climb", we'll believe her (that's her in the picture below on the 22% finishing section)!
