Intermediate Skills Camps
It's Time to Step It Up

June 26, 27 & 28, 2010

This is fun!

This skills and techniques camp will help you develop the finer points of riding a road bicycle. You will polish your paceline, echelon and groups riding techniques. You'll improve upon the tools that help climbing and descending become second nature. Your days will be spent executing specific skills and workouts, and evenings will include short seminars explaining the techniques and goals of each day. You will learn about training techniques that will make you stronger. Most of all, you'll have a great time bathed in the beautiful sport of cycling in one of the best spots in the world to enjoy it.

This camp is designed for those who have a moderate level of experience riding a road bike or those who have more experience and are looking for a structured environment in which to polish the skills that will make them more confident and comfortable in the saddle. Participants should bring a road bike (with drop bars) and be fit enough to enjoy averaging 15 - 17 mph on the flats during rides of 50 miles over terrain that will include some climbing

Attendees will arrive in Northampton on Friday evening, June 25 and depart on the afternoon of Monday, June 28, 2010. The camp includes accommodations at The Hotel Northampton or the Northampton Quality Inn & Suites (formerly the Best Western Northampton), a hearty breakfast and lunch Friday through Sunday, as well as written materials to support the coaching. Each camp is limited to 8 attendees, so be sure to reserve your space by signing up now!

Recent attendees say:

  • "The content of the course, the instruction and the riding were all great. Northampton was a very pleasant surprise to me, with its restaurants and charm. However, the overall superb quality of the experience was enhanced by two very special people. Thanks to both Elaine and you for making the three days so memorable."

  • "I need to tell you I have finished two (miles not metric) centuries since camp and am signed up for my third this season on Sunday. Part of how I finally achieved my long time goal of a century, since I had not been able to go more than 70-80 miles prior to camp, is the skill set and confidence that I know what I'm doing-- thanks to you! I smoke everybody as much as a 120 pounder can on the downhills!!

I know finishing feeling good--meaning I can go harder next time--and my surprisingly fast times (and even short rides compared to last season) are to your credit! It's not just the downhill skills, though that's where I see the most improvement, but overall that I am a better cyclist. I attack the road itself now; it's like I am seeing it differently because I know what to look for and how to take it on for my mind and body ( repeat after me....I LOVE uphills! I LOVE uphills! damn it works....) and I'm not just peddling along hoping I'm going faster. I can't wait to see how much more I improve before the Wisconsin snows end my cycling season!

Thanks for all the success I've experienced since camp....wow!"
