Ride Noho 10,000 Foot Century Weekend
August 18 & 19, 2012

Ten thousand feet, that’s a lot of climbing in 100 miles. If you really like to climb and descend, are in mid-season form, and have easy gearing – this is the event for you.
Saturday is century day, so come in fresh and be ready to go up hill. The route is spectacularly beautiful, travelling through some of the most rugged terrain western Massachusetts has to offer. Catch glimpses of rafts as they negotiate class-four whitewater and marvel at the views of the mountains of southern Vermont. This ride is van supported and will have an A paced group and a B paced group so no one gets dropped. We’ll be getting back late in the day, so after a shower we’ll be off to a very well deserved dinner. On Sunday, we’ll wind things down with a flat, recovery-paced jaunt to the Montague Bookmill for coffee, cookies and conversation.
The century includes a number of steep hard sections, including the climb from the Deerfield River to Whitcomb Summit. This comes at roughly 50 miles in, and covers nearly two and one half miles with an average grade of a hair over 10%. You will want an easy gear on this climb!
As per the old adage, what goes up must come down, so expect some fast, twisty New England style descents. The good news is that the last 15 miles are mainly downhill, as we shed nearly 1300 feet in that distance.
(Disclaimer – various GPS applications result in varying total elevation gains, our Garmin said 10,000 feet, so we’re taking it!)

"This is one of the best centuries I have ridden – out to Zoar Gap by the rivers and back through the mountains with some of the best scenery in Western Massachusetts. The van is there for food, mechanical issues or clothing changes, and guides are there for pacing to the top." - Terry from CT
