June 28 and 29, 2008 Elaine Formica has planned some great riding for women only, and she'd love to have you join her and her guides. Wonderful camaraderie and the forging of lasting friendships will accompany a weekend of memorable cycling. Off-bike support will be provided by Aldo Tiboni. This women's-only weekend is open to both "A" and "B" riders so that we'll be able to have two groups that are relatively evenly matched for comfortable riding for all that attend. "A" rides are for stronger riders who can easily handle 18-20 mph on the flats in a group, and who enjoy rides with multiple climbs. These may total as much as 3500 vertical feet per ride, so 39/23 gearing is recommended. "B" rides are for riders who can maintain 15-17 mph on the flats in a group and enjoy multiple climbs totaling up to 3000 vertical feet per ride, so 39/26 or "triple" gearing is recommended. In the "B" group, the climbing pace will be moderate. When you are not riding, you will have plenty of time to take advantage of all else that Northampton has to offer. Enjoy the blend of boutique shopping, renowned local cuisine and wonderful cultural activities that have made our Paradise City famous. Saturday, Day 1 - Wendell State Forest - 58 Miles After a healthy breakfast at Sylvesters, we'll meet for a fun ride that will take us to the Book Mill (of "books you don't need at a place you can't find" fame) and then up the climb by the entrance to the Wendell State Forest. Next are miles and miles of descending that will only be interrupted by a brief stop in Leverett at the Co-op for Aldo's favorite, a chocolate croissant (if you dare). We will then make our way back to Northampton where Aldo will have set up a picnic feast at Look Park. What a day!! Let us know if we can book a massage for you. Sunday, Day 2 - Our Famous Shelburne Falls Route - 50 or 56 Miles Again, a healthy breakfast at Sylvesters starts our day. We will meet for some long steady climbs and lots of wonderful scenery. Our guests have traditionally rated this ride “spectacular”. We will have a refueling stop at McCusker's Market (whose owner is a cyclist, so there is always a floor pump available). If we want, we can cross over the Bridge of Flowers and view the historic glacial potholes at Salmon Falls, then it's back on the bikes to Northampton. Lunch will be a Paul and Elizabeth's restaurant.
